berkeley chancellor (大学校长) on CCTV

Wow I didn't know our chancellor went to China, received an honorary degree from Tsinghua, and did a face-to-face interview on China Central Television. He was very good at bragging about the rich history and achievements of UC Berkeley. Check out the full talk show if you are interested. Man, I love Berkeley!

decision decision

I haven't updated for a while, simply because I have nothing to update. Now finally i made up my mind. O boy that was a difficult decision. I waited till the very last moment to make the decision. But nevertheless, i've decided to go back to sunny southern california for graduate school. I had almost gone for Washington University in St. Louis or somewhere else. But no, in the end, it's UCLA/Caltech MD/PhD. I guess it's the combination factors like close proximity to family, location, and awesome research at Caltech that sealed the deal at the end. With that said, that means I will be in LA for the next 8 long years. If anyone is visiting LA, I will be there to show you around.

just something for fun

I just copied this from my xanga. Just think some of you might be interested. But dont take it seriously. It's not very credible. But I do like the Biological Science PhD ranking. Two of my favorite schools are up there. Well, not to be biased, I still think those are two of the most complete (by that I mean best) schools out there.

I always wonder how US news and world report came up with this ranking. Plus I can never figure out how Tuition and Faculty to Student Ratio are related to the quality of a school. Harvard always cheats in this kinda ranking. It doesnt have 1 billion NIH funding, if you check the NIH website. I bet US news&world report added up all the fundings for all the hospitals in boston that are somehow affiliated with harvard.

music fans: you need to watch this

o my lord, this 13 yr old korean kid (nickname FunTwo) is freaking awesome!!!! You've got to watch him play this Cannon in D (a classic originally composed by Pachelbel, but newly renovated by Jerry Chang, a taiwan guitarist). But this korean kid made it famous.
He had more than 15 million clicks on youtube. btw, just for ur reference, it's no fake. He was interviewed by CNN.

给邓波看的。

邓波那那么多新年愿望,没一条实在。
好,我就给他加一条:
尽快找到一个心仪的女朋友。
快加油了,大伙都等着呢。

Happy New Year!!!!!!

sigh, Jimmy is getting dumber and dumber...

What will Jimmy do to reverse this trend-Jimmy will have a brain tranplant and change his look and personalities completely (extreme makeover) from inside out to start a brand new year.

Jimmy might have neglected his family and many wonderful friends for the past year because he has been preoccupied on med school application and work. He wants everyone to know that even though Jimmy might seem to have disappeared, he is always there with you (at least mentally) and wishing you the very best. Congratulations to those who have been married (you know who I am talking about!), engaged (e.g. TimTim), or simply started a relationship (including that someone who didnt tell me herself muahaha i found out myself)! For someone who was unleashed (I mean ah broke up) last year (let's use Kerry as an example ^_^), dont you worry, that means you are free again and in a place to potentially find someone even better fit for you. For someone who might be in danger of breaking up (Tommy and Jenny maybe?), the only advice I have... I will tell you in private

Wish everyone Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! No matter what happened (unless it's the end of the world), always look on the brighter side. Let's use Jimmy as a perfect example here. If Jimmy reaches the bottom of his life within the next two weeks, that means his life will only get better and better.

Again, make sure you watch the movie Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith. It's truly inspirational.

推荐两部电影

最近没事就去movie theater混,一看就是好几部 (movie-thon)...
大多都平平,唯一有两步值得推荐一下。The Pursuit of Happyness (happyness is intentionally spelt this way), starring Will Smith. The story is very inspirational and Will Smith's acting is exceptional in this one.
Another one is a Chinese movie, the Curse of the Golden Flowers, directed by Zhang Yimou, and starring Gongli and Jay Chow (can he act?) It just came out in American theater. The graphics were beautifully done, although overly exaggerated. The actings were decent if you dont take Jay Chow's acting into account. I think he's better off if he just sticks with singing. His taiwanese style mandarin just doesnt sound like a prince. But nevertheless, I think just the quality of the graphics is worth seeing in theater.
I had a very high expectation for Mel Gibson's new movie, Apocalytico. It turned out just to be a mediocre production, in my opinion.
Happy holidays, everyone!
